![]() ![]() Words and phrases like “shiz-nizzle” and “faster than a hot knife through butter” are thrown around casually as if people actually talk like that in the real world, and it feels like someone took the Steve Buscemi “How do you do, fellow kids?” meme and translated it into a video game. That’s all within Riders Republic's opening cutscene, and it sadly doesn’t get any better from there. She references the in-game Shop as being a place where players can “keep it fresh,” and calls the Shackdaddy Bandits that offer some of the game’s crazier events a “bunch of bucknutty riders'' that players should “twangle” with to earn rewards. Take the opening cutscene where players meet NPC Suki, who goes about giving riders a tour around Riders Ridge before introducing them to “Triple OG” Brett. Where Riders Republic falters is in the characterization of NPCs and the absurdly cringe dialogue that comes out of their mouths any time they speak. Related: Riders Republic Review: A Blast Despite Its Clunky Controls It doesn’t hurt that character customization is encouraged throughout, creating a multiplayer experience in Riders Republic where riders dress up as giraffes in tuxedos and multi-colored unicorns and jump on outlandish vehicles like a rocket bike or rocket skis. Desert landscapes give way to snow-covered mountain tops and everything in-between, helping create an experience where players feel like they’re exploring the globe in their quest to reach extreme sport stardom. Riders Republic’s environments also go a long way towards selling the fun, with the map being made up of a hodgepodge of US National parks that help diversify what kind of terrain players find themselves traveling on from moment to moment. ![]()
